    My Ballet New Year’s Resolutions

Usually, I make New Year’s Resolutions for everything in my life and compile it into one list of things I want to accomplish, become better at, or start. I’ve never made New Year’s Resolutions specifically for ballet. I’ve just said in my list I want to get better, but I don’t say how I want to achieve this nor the steps I have to take to make this happen. This year, I want to make a list of resolutions just for ballet so I can do just that and share it with all of you. I split up my Resolutions into 7 sections: flexibility, strength, health, technique, ballet class, performance,…

    Falling in love with Ballet

Dancing has been my life since I stepped out of the womb. Dancing makes me feel free and alive. When I dance, I feel like I am portraying emotions and feelings through the movement I make with my body. I feel like I am making the music I’m dancing to physical. I was always and still am shy and I sometimes have trouble conveying my feelings and thoughts with words, but I have come out of my shell more since then. When I was little I was very shy and dancing was a way for me to express myself without using words.         My mom started dancing in…

Photo shoot for Pointe People with Nicki Bosch!

Hi Guys, I had my first official ballet photo shoot today! It is for a new company Pointe People and they have a line of “Pointe Paint” for your technique and pointe shoes. They invited a few dancers to come out for their “Pointe People Paint Party!” I had such an amazing time. Paige, the founder, is a former dancer and she knows just how difficult it is when a dancer has to color their pointe shoes. As a student at the Dance Theatre of Harlem our pointe shoes much match the color of our skin. I’m always looking for better and easier ways to color my shoes. Today,…

    Ballet Hacks

Hey guys, It’s Gabi and today I am going to share some ballet hacks with you guys. 1. Do you ever have the problem that your pointe shoe ribbon knot wouldn’t stay in and always fall out? Well, you can hairspray your knot and you can sew it into your tights. 2. The heel of my pointe shoes always falls off. So a hack to fix this is that you can put rosin on the heel of your foot and your heel of your pointe shoe wouldn’t come off. 3. Another hack you can use is that you can stretch while you are watching tv, Netflix or Hulu. You can also stretch…

I Can’t Believe This Summer Intensive is Almost Over (TWSB – Wednesday)

Hi guys, Today I had technique, pointe, workshop, and jazz workshop. For technique and pointe I had the russian teacher, I don’t know how to spell his name though. He is a very strict teacher, but a very good teacher. And you have to get every head position, arm position, and the right combination.  You have to do that anyway but he is really particular about it. He also teaches the russian style, and I love learning different kinds of styles. So I love that Washington School of Ballet teachers teach different ballet styles. His classes are very challenging, but I love taking them. And we have him all week but Friday, so…

Jealousy and Dealing with Jealousy (Ballet Edition)

Hi guys, In this blog post I am going to be sharing some tips on how to cope with jealousy and competing for the best role in a audition. Dealing with people who are rude or jealous of you because you are trying hard in class or you are the best in the class. How not to boost about getting a really good part in a ballet. And how not to soak in your sorrow when you don’t get the best part, or the part you wanted. These things are hard to deal with because, if you get the best part in the ballet. You most likely want to jump up and…

    DTH Gala: Honoring Jessye Norman

Hi guys I got invited to dance in the DTH gala honoring Jessye Norman. The gala is this Tuesday and I am really excited because we are also dancing for Jessye Norman. I did this last year as well, but it was for someone else. We are dancing to one of the songs Jessye Norman sings, Les Nuits D’été, Op.7: I. Villanelle. The countings are really challenging. But I really like the choreography and it is a fun piece to do. Also Mr. Garland is choreographing the piece and I love working with Mr. Garland, he is an amazing choreographer and teacher. I am really excited to perform at the Gala,…

And check if you need pointe shoes and/or a picture of you in first arabesque or a head shot. I couldn’t do the Boston Ballet summer intensive audition because I…
